Difference between pausing and stopping an automation

Pausing an automation

Once you pause an active automation:

  • Contacts in the automation will not advance to the next step.
  • No emails will be sent and no actions will be performed.
  • New contacts will be queued to start the automation, provided they match its conditions.

Once you restart the automation, all contacts will continue going through its steps.

If an automation remains paused for 30 days, we'll automatically move it to the "stopped" state.

Use this option whenever you want to make small changes to your automation, for example, when adding or editing a step.

Stopping an automation

Once you stop an automation:

  • No contacts will be added or queued to start it.
  • No emails will be sent and no actions will be performed.
  • Any contacts who are already going through the automation will exit immediately and you won't be able to re-add them.
