Why does Amazon require a payment card?

Amazon requires a valid debit/credit card on file to help protect their service against fraud. They will make a small charge of $1 to ensure that the card is valid and not stolen, but this is temporary and will not be taken from your balance (otherwise known as an authorisation charge).

If you exceed in sending over 3,000 emails in a month they will then also charge this card.
